PTGS1 is one of two genes encoding similar enzymes that catalyze the conversion of arachinodate to prostaglandin. Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 1 regulates angiogenesis in endothelial cells, and is inhibited by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin. Based on its ability to function as both a cyclooxygenase and as a peroxidase, prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 1 has been identified as a moonlighting protein. Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 1 may promote cell proliferation during tumor progression. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
Cox-1 Polyclonal Antibody detects endogenous levels of Cox-1 protein.
Optimal working dilutions should be determined experimentally by the investigator. Suggested starting dilutions are as follows: WB: 1:500-1:2000, IHC-p: 1:100-1:300, ELISA: 1:40000. Not yet tested in other applications.
