Syndecan-2 is a transmembrane (type I) heparan sulfate proteoglycan and is a member of the syndecan proteoglycan family. The syndecans mediate cell binding, cell signaling, and cytoskeletal organization and syndecan receptors are required for internalization of the HIV-1 tat protein. The syndecan-2 protein functions as an integral membrane protein and participates in cell proliferation, cell migration and cell-matrix interactions via its receptor for extracellular matrix proteins. Altered syndecan-2 expression has been detected in several different tumor types.By Southern hybridization to a panel of human-mouse somatic cell hybrid DNA and by in situ hybridization, Marynen et al. (1989) showed that the heparan sulfate proteoglycan core protein maps to 8q22-q24.
Human Syndecan-2 (SDC2) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate SDC2 in samples. An antibody specific for SDC2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anySDC2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for SDC2 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SDC2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
