Sortilin-related receptor (SORL1) encodes a mosaic protein that belongs to at least two families: the vacuolar protein sorting 10 (VPS10) domain-containing receptor family, and the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) family. SORL1 also contains fibronectin type III repeats and an epidermal growth factor repeat. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature receptor, which likely plays roles in endocytosis and sorting. Mutations in SORL1 may be associated with Alzheimer's disease.
Human Sortilin-related receptor (SORL1) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate SORL1 in samples. An antibody specific for SORL1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anySORL1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for SORL1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SORL1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
