Son of sevenless homolog 1 (SOS1) is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor for RAS proteins, membrane proteins that bind guanine nucleotides and participate in signal transduction pathways. GTP binding activates and GTP hydrolysis inactivates RAS proteins. The product of SOS1 may regulate RAS proteins by facilitating the exchange of GTP for GDP. Mutations in SOS1 are associated with gingival fibromatosis 1 and Noonan syndrome type 4.
Human Son of sevenless homolog 1 (SOS1) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate SOS1 in samples. An antibody specific for SOS1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anySOS1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for SOS1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SOS1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
