SLC2A4 is a member of the solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter) family and encodes solute carrier family 2, facilitated glucose transporter member 4 that functions as an insulin-regulated facilitative glucose transporter. In the absence of insulin, this integral membrane protein is sequestered within the cells of muscle and adipose tissue. Within minutes of insulin stimulation, the protein moves to the cell surface and begins to transport glucose across the cell membrane. Mutations in SLC2A4 have been associated with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
Canine Solute carrier family 2, facilitated glucose transporter member 4 (SLC2A4) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate SLC2A4 in samples. An antibody specific for SLC2A4 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anySLC2A4 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for SLC2A4 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SLC2A4 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
