Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. The enzyme encoded by this gene degrades type IV and V collagens. Studies in rhesus monkeys suggest that the enzyme is involved in IL-8-induced mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells from bone marrow, and murine studies suggest a role in tumor-associated tissue remodeling.MMP9 (Matrix Metallopeptidase 9) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with MMP9 include Metaphyseal Anadysplasia 2 and Metaphyseal Anadysplasia.
Bovine Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MMP9 in samples. An antibody specific for MMP9 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMMP9 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MMP9 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MMP9 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
