Transaldolase 1 is a key enzyme of the nonoxidative pentose phosphate pathway providing ribose-5-phosphate for nucleic acid synthesis and NADPH for lipid biosynthesis. This pathway can also maintain glutathione at a reduced state and thus protect sulfhydryl groups and cellular integrity from oxygen radicals. The functional gene of transaldolase 1 is located on chromosome 11 and a pseudogene is identified on chromosome 1 but there are conflicting map locations. The second and third exon of Transaldolase were developed by insertion of a retrotransposable element. Transaldolase is thought to be involved in multiple sclerosis.
Bovine Transaldolase (TALDO1) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate TALDO1 in samples. An antibody specific for TALDO1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyTALDO1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for TALDO1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of TALDO1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
