Figure 1: Application of equibiaxial strain with the FX-5000™ Tension System to cells plated in the well of a BioFlex® culture plate.
The FX-5000™ Tension System is a patented, computerized, pressureoperated instrument that applies a defined controlled, static or variable duration
cyclic tension, to cells growing in vitro. This system utilizes regulated vacuum pressure to deform flexiblebottomed culture plates.
When used with BioFlex® culture plates and cylindrical-shaped loading posts, this system applies an equibiaxial strain to the cells cultured in monolayer on the
flexible-bottomed membrane of the BioFlex® culture well. Similarly, when used with UniFlex® culture plates and an Arctangle® loading post, this system applies a uniaxial strain. This system can also apply a gradient biaxial strain of up to 33% when used in the absence of loading posts.
Highlights
Apply equibiaxial or uniaxial tension to cells in 2D
and 3D culture.
Simulate in vivo tissue strains and frequencies in an
in vitro setting.
Contains state-of-the-art digital valves to automatically
regulate and maintain pressure for a specified
strain regimen.
Works with BioFlex®, Tissue Train®, UniFlex®, and
24-well HT BioFlex® series culture plates.
Multiple frequency, amplitude and waveform changes
can be programmed in one regimen.
Drives up to four independent FlexLink® remote
compression and/or tension controllers.
For many years, Bio Excellence has specialized in selling and training Flexcell's products to stretch cells in culture. In addition, our products allow users to apply mechanical loads (i.e., tension, compression, and fluid flow) to cells in monolayer and 3D culture.
