Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a very small bacterium in the class Mollicutes. It is a human pathogen that causes the disease mycoplasma pneumonia, a form of atypical bacterial pneumonia related to cold agglutinin disease. M. pneumoniae is characterized by the absence of a peptidoglycan cell wall and resulting resistance to many antibacterial agents. The persistence of M. pneumoniae infections even after treatment is associated with its ability to mimic host cell surface composition.
Rat Mycoplasma pneumoniae antibody (MP-Ab) ELISA Kit employs the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique. The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to MP-Ab. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP)-conjugated MP-Ab and incubated. The competitive inhibition reaction is launched between with HRP labeled MP-Ab and unlabeled MP-Ab with the antibody. A substrate solution is added to the wells and the color develops in opposite to the amount of MP-Ab in the sample. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
