Interferon γ (IFN-γ) encodes a soluble cytokine that is a member of the type II interferon class. The encoded protein is secreted by cells of both the innate and adaptive immune systems. The active protein is a homodimer that binds to the interferon gamma receptor which triggers a cellular response to viral and microbial infections. Mutations in this gene are associated with an increased susceptibility to viral, bacterial and parasitic infections and to several autoimmune diseases. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2015]
Rabbit Interferon γ (IFN-γ) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate IFN-γ in samples. An antibody specific for IFN-γ has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyIFN-γ present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for IFN-γ is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of IFN-γ bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
