The protein encoded by SYTL5 belongs to the synaptotagmin-like (Slp) protein family, which contains a unique homology domain at the N-terminus, referred to as the Slp homology domain (SHD). The SHD functions as a binding site for Rab27A, which plays a role in protein transport. Expression of SYTL5 is restricted to placenta and liver, suggesting that it might be involved in Rab27A-dependent membrane trafficking in specific tissues. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for SYTL5.
Mouse Synaptotagmin-like protein 5 (SYTL5) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate SYTL5 in samples. An antibody specific for SYTL5 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anySYTL5 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for SYTL5 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of SYTL5 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
