Exeter Analytical : A CHN Analyser designed to meet the analytical needs for filter samples

hits:1355     Date:01/12/18
With its unique Horizontal furnace design, Exeter Analytical鈥檚 CE440 Elemental analyser allows for the immediate removal of sample residue which makes this system perfectly designed to deal with large filter samples.
Most Vertical systems on the market function by dropping a sample into a reaction vessel for combustion. This is not ideal for filter samples, as they leave substantial amounts of residue. As a result, the analysis process is compromised making the process more labour intensive, and requiring the need to clean the system more often, as little as 20 samples at a time. Furthermore, larger filters are required to be sub-sampled several times and then corrective calculations made to enable analysis.

Exeter Analytical's technical paper provides useful background information on standard sampling procedures, filter preparation, optimising instrument operation and quality assurance for laboratories seeking to precisely determine the carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content of samples retained on filters.
Further discussion illustrates how direct determination of total CHN retained on a filter is more sensitive, precise, and cost-effective than making measurements on pre- and post-filtered samples and calculating the difference.
Without the need of endless maintenance, the gas flow characteristics of the CE440 analyser are constant, providing long-term calibration stability, enhanced accuracy, and precision for measured sample data.
In addition, the CE440 provides the capacity to process filters up to 50mm in diameter in one analytical cycle. It has been shown that the analyser provides complete control over combustion parameters without the need for expensive tin capsules to aid combustion, making CE440 very cost effective per sample.
