Recombinant gene transformation can be performed with different tissues of the lettuce, including leaf and stem. For the transformation with leaf tissues, after agroinfiltration, the target protein can be expressed within 2–3 days. The transformed leaf is then harvested, and subjected to protein extraction and purification. Comparing to the conventional stable expression, the transient express approach yields higher protein expression levels. Aside from the higher expression efficiency, our in-house plant factories ensure that no transgenic product is exposed to the environment, which is more safe and environmental-friendly.
