MDGA1 encodes a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface glycoprotein that is expressed predominantly in the developing nervous system. In addition to possessing several cell adhesion molecule-like domains, the mature protein has six Ig-like domains, a single fibronectin type III domain, a MAM domain and a C-terminal GPI-anchoring site. Studies in other mammals suggest this protein plays a role in cell adhesion, migration, and axon guidance and, in the developing brain, neuronal migration. In humans, MDGA1 is associated with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Chicken MAM domain-containing glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor protein 1 (MDGA1) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MDGA1 in samples. An antibody specific for MDGA1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMDGA1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MDGA1 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MDGA1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
