Calprotectin is a protein biomarker that is present in the faeces when intestinal inflammation occurs. Faecal calprotectin testing is helping to improve patient care and save money for the NHS. It prevents the need for unnecessary endoscopy procedures on many patients by screening out those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Calprotectin is also shown to be of value in the ongoing assessment of known IBD patients, with the biomarker concentration reflecting mucosal healing or potential relapse.
Bovine Calprotectin (CALPRO) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate Calprotectin (CALPRO) in samples. An antibody specific for Calprotectin (CALPRO) has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyCalprotectin (CALPRO) present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for Calprotectin (CALPRO) is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of Calprotectin (CALPRO) bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
