Cytochrome C, Somatic (CYCS) gene encodes a small heme protein that functions as a central component of the electron transport chain in mitochondria. The encoded protein associates with the inner membrane of the mitochondrion where it accepts electrons from cytochrome b and transfers them to the cytochrome oxidase complex. This protein is also involved in initiation of apoptosis. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant nonsyndromic thrombocytopenia. Numerous processed pseudogenes of this gene are found throughout the human genome.
Bovine Cytochrome c (CYCS) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate CYCS in samples. An antibody specific for CYCS has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyCYCS present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CYCS is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of CYCS bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
