L-xylulose reductase (DCXR) acts as a homotetramer to catalyze diacetyl reductase and L-xylulose reductase reactions. The encoded protein may play a role in the uronate cycle of glucose metabolism and in the cellular osmoregulation in the proximal renal tubules. Defects in this gene are a cause of pentosuria.GO annotations related to this gene include oxidoreductase activity and oxidoreductase activity, acting on NAD(P)H, quinone or similar compound as acceptor. An important paralog of this gene is DHRS4.
Bovine L-xylulose reductase (DCXR) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate DCXR in samples. An antibody specific for DCXR has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyDCXR present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for DCXR is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of DCXR bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
