The International Botanical Congress

The International Botanical Congress
July 23-29,2017

About IBC

The International Botanical Congress (IBC) is a major convention that brings together scientists from around the world to discuss new research in the plant sciences. The IBC is held once every six years. The Congresses are particularly notable in that they not only bring together scientists from many countries, but also from many disciplines within the broader research fields related to the plant sciences, including botany, mycology, ecology, horticulture, agriculture, and other related fields. The increasing knowledge about plants鈥攖heir history, growth, uses, interactions with other organisms, and roles in the ecosystem鈥攊s becoming progressively important for the stability and sustainability of the human endeavor and, indeed, of all life on Earth.

The XIX IBC will be held under the auspices of the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS), through the International Association of Botanical and Mycological Societies (IABMS) of the IUBS. The XIX IBC is organized by the Botanical Society of China and the Shenzhen Municipal Government.  It will be held in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, Shenzhen, China. The first circular will be sent in 2015 to all botanists and institutions through society mailings and upon request.

The XIX IBC has turned over a new leaf in the history of IBC with China being the first developing country to host the Congress. In addition to being a developing country, China is also a fast growing economy and one of the world's biopersity hot spots. China's successful experience in building an innovation-oriented society while protecting biopersity will help the Congress in the endeavor of achieving a sustainable earth.
